STUDIO ANDREW TODD
Le Silo Auditorium
Marseille
Marseille, France
Completed 2011
Since October 2011 the City of Marseille has been graced with a new multifunction performing arts facility of a scale and type previously unseen in Europe: an opera house of 1500 seats with full staging facilities, a rock concert hall of 2200 seats, a 1000 seat theatre and a freeform venue for contemporary dance, road shows and conferences, integrated into a unique 'found space' venue within the carefully preserved shell of the remarkable 1920s harbourside grain silo complex.
As part of the design team led by Marseille-based architects C+T we developed the brief and the form of the auditorium, as well as a new line of theatre seating in recyclable aluminium designed specifically for this project.
