STUDIO ANDREW TODD

Temporary Royal Festival Hall

London, England

2004

The South Bank Centre –the world's largest cultural centre- invited us to submit proposals for a temporary venue for the Royal Festival Hall during its refurbishment works. We provided a fully costed design-build solution with Edwin Shirley Staging which would enable a greater artistic range of possibilities than the existing hall (such as spatialised music), and would have resolved the severe pedestrian circulation problems affecting the site (from Charing Cross to Waterloo), with a new foyer deck overlooking the River Thames and a link to Jubilee gardens -which could also serve as an outdoor stage.

Client: ESS / The South Bank Centre

Size: 2200 sq.m

Budget: 10M euros
